Desert Botanical Garden Harpist
Playing harp at the DBG in Phoenix, AZ, is truly a regenerating experience. For this Desert Botanical Garden harpist, playing here is amazing in that not only do I get to play the harp in one of Phoenix’s most glorious settings, I get paid to do it! Seriously, I can’t imagine having a better job than this!
The Desert Botanical Garden affords spectacular scenery. Adjacent to the camel-esque buttes at Papago Park and the Phoenix Zoo, the DBG offers multiple venues for any wedding size or need. From intimate escapes to larger 300+ sized crowds, the DBG is able to handle just about anything. The garden is so large and varied that several wedding ceremonies and receptions could happen simultaneously, and the only clue giving away the presence of another wedding would be when the bridal party escapes for scenic pictures.
Once upon a time, as a side note, I had the opportunity to dawn the DBG calendar with my harp, as I debuted a Southwestern Flamenco-ish style of harp. It was such a cool experience!
Glass artist, Chihuly, among other artists have left their indelible marks upon the gardens over the years, so there is often a new feature or exhibit to expect. While several larger arterials spur away from the entrance, one may move away from the paved paths to discover the hidden gems within the garden. Even at night, the DBG comes alive with various concerts and exhibits, so there always something going on.
Recently I played harp for a long-time friend and amazing botanical artist who was recently exhibited at the DBG. Dyana Hesson is beyond talented, and I truly believe no home is a home without a “Hesson” painting hanging inside… just saying! For years, Dyana has been featured at the Bonner-David Gallery in Scottsdale, AZ, so when she was recognized by several artist magazines and the DBG, we know she hit the “big time”. Specializing in succulents, Hesson has mastered oil on canvas desert florals. Stunning! I count it truly an honor to call Dyana a close friend! I love being a Desert Botanical Garden Harpist!
